Recommended Computer Technical Specifications

The following are the recommended minimum 移动PC technical requirements recommended to allow you to participate fully in most of 原理 College’s academic programs for the four years you are here.

Specific Laptop Recommendations for the following academic programs:

  The 计算机科学 program at 原理 strongly recommend that students consider 移动PCs with the added specifications:
  • Windows 11或macOS
  • A 15 to 16 in screen with a minimum  2K (2048 × 1080) resolution
  • 1 TB SSD hard drive minimum
  • Windows笔记本电脑, a CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) compatible graphics card is recommended

  • For windows 移动PCs a CAD compatible graphics card is recommended

• Your computer has antivirus software with a current subscription installed.
• You install operating system updates regularly such as:

*Any individual operating a computer that does not comply with these requirements is subject to both regulatory fines 和 fees for damages.

All student houses 和 most academic buildings have computer facilities for general use or specially equipped labs for student use that are available 24/7. All of the buildings 和 houses are networked 和 have hard-wired 和 wireless internet access.

原理’s technical support desk 和 苹果 和 戴尔 warranty repair station is staffed weekdays from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. 和 can help with personal computer needs.

Charges for work on personally owned computers is generally billable at $50.00/hour in 1/4 hour increments. Owners will be asked to purchase needed parts. IT staff will provide guidance 和 tools, free of charge, for those wishing to google a DIY solution.

网络

Free Wi-Fi networking is available in all dorms, classroom 和 athletic buildings, 和 such general spaces as Marshall Brooks 图书馆, 霍华德中心, 和考克斯小屋. Although most students use Wi-Fi, every dorm room has at least one wired Ethernet port. On request, the College will supply one wired Ethernet port for each bed in a dorm room.

The following types of personally owned devices are prohibited on 原理's network:

• Wireless 和 wired routers (including 苹果 airport base stations 和 variant products)
• Any device that is configured to offer DHCP services

The consumer versions of these products are built for ease of set-up at home but provide features that can interfere with the College network, impacting both the individual user 和 his or her neighbors. Any individual operating such a personal network device is subject to both regulatory fines 和 fees for damages.
